Mindfulness Of Breathing

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the mysterious mental capacity to be aware of the wandering of the mind. It illuminates what the mind is doing.

Breathing

In mindfulness of breathing, our intended direction is to stay focused on the breath – each breath in and out. Because we have this conscious intention to focus on the breath, it becomes obvious when we are going off course.

What Can We Gain From Suffering?

Suffering allows us to experience compassion for the suffering of others, and reminds us of the preciousness of the life we are living.

Suffering puts us face to face with who we are and reminds us of our deepest values and what is truly important. Every difficult situation life presents us with is a chance to see who we truly are.

What Makes Life Matter?

Whether you accomplish or don’t accomplish anything during your entire lifetime, your existence is what makes you matter.

This simple truth is probably the most important thing to know about ourselves: what we are creating isn’t as important as who we get to be while we are creating.

What Is Haiku Poetry?

Frog in a Pond

This is a classic haiku poem, written by the Japanese haiku master, Basho (1644-1694). It’s about a moment — just the experience of this moment — “splash!” Every haiku is an attempt to reveal, in poetic form, such a moment.

Haiku Layout

Often the first two lines set the scene, giving the reader a context. Then in the next line the poem opens to offer a moment of insight. Haiku poems are carefully created so as to lead to a “splash” that sets off ripples of thought for the reader.

How Does Naming An Experience Help?

Benefits of Naming an Experience

When we can name an experience, we can perceive it. Perceiving it, we can observe it carefully. We come to understand it. With understanding, we can learn acceptance. With acceptance, we learn how to live with it, and how to make wise decisions about it.
