Looking Within

Focusing Attention

Focusing our attention outwardly leads the self to latch onto outward things and to strategizing how to obtain them: I like that; I want that: How can I get that? Yet those same senses are the tools that bring us into our bodies and into an intimate awareness of qi, our vital energy.

Feeling & Perceiving

The goal is not to negate the senses — a point of misunderstanding for many newcomers to meditation who think that meditation is zoning out — but to fine-tune the senses for the purpose of deeper feeling. The act of “looking” at the body is an inward turning that allows us to feel and perceive the self.

Ultimate Goal

The ultimate goal of the Internal Arts is “feeling” the body, it’s pathways and circulation, it’s health and well-being. Learning how to listen to the body and then adjusting it’s state, structure, and rootedness appropriately is the path to harnessing and using qi.
